Predetermined maintenance gave the customer a reliable plant

Starting in 2009, Elektroautomatik conducts regular predetermined maintenance at one of its customer’s. The result? A reliable plant with minimum risk for stops in production.

Elektroautomatik took total responsibility

Every year, Elektroautomatik performs 4-6 replacements of cable carriers for one of its customers. The measures, the predetermined maintenance, are done to guarantee that the production is not stopped by drag chains and cables wearing and breaking after several years of use. Even if several cable carriers are replaced every year, each replacement is considered as a separate project, where Elektroautomatik takes total responsibility, from preparation to verification and quality assurance at the customer’s.

– All cable carriers look different, which means that each project must be developed separately, says Johan Jansson, Installation Manager and responsible from Elektroautomatik’s side. The first thing we do is the preparation work. In this phase, we are out with the customer and investigating what has to be done. After this, we buy in the right materials and preassemble everything on our own premises. This is to make sure we have been thinking correctly and that the solution really functions.

During the actual installation at the customer, everything must be correct because there isn’t room to change the solution. Once the cable carrier has been replaced, Elektroautomatik verifies and quality assures the plant so the production can start up fault free at the next production start.

“Preventive maintenance refers to measures and controls that are planned in advance and scheduled to prevent faults. We recommend all of our customers to review this because in the long run it is financially advantageous.”

Trust, flexibility and delivery reliability – a precondition

Bearing in mind that the customers usually have multi-shift production, good preparation work and flexibility is a must for suppliers. The customer does not have the possibility to adapt the production to the supplier. It must be vice versa.

– With this customer, we had a weekend to do the job, from installation to quality assurance, Johan says. This demands that we have competent personnel who are scrupulous about delivery reliability.

Preventive maintenance provides a reliable plant

– Preventive maintenance refers to measures and controls that are planned in advance and scheduled to prevent faults. We recommend all of our customers to review this because in the long run it is financially advantageous, says Urban Gustavsson, Service Manager at Elektroautomatik. Stops in production due to unexpected faults are usually an annoying and expensive story.
