– As part of an automation project, we have now worked with Virtual Commissioning and carried out our first virtual start-up along with one of our key clients. This has been an important step because it has created great value for the customer, who, thanks to Virtual Commissioning has reduced his start-up risks and has started up the production faster,” Jonas Kjellberg, CEO at Elektroautomatik, says.

“The virtual commissioning meant that both we and the customer could test and experience the equipment at a much earlier stage than we would have been able to do before.”

The equipment was a robot cell including feed and discharge tracks, separation, robot grapple, cylinders and motors. This was constructed in ABB RobotStudio and all movements, including robot, were connected to the PLC program in the TIA Portal.

The customer was onsite at Elektroautomatik for a virtual FAT, during which they could run and test the equipment, software and HMI. With the help of a VR headsets, they could also enter the station and test space and heights for lifting.

– Virtual commissioning means that both we and the customer can test and experience the equipment at a much earlier stage than we would otherwise been able to do, Samuel Lindholm, Technology Manager at Elektroautomatik in Skövde, says.

Both the customer and Elektroautomatik were very positive about the project.
